Friends are providing you with a regular income but have to be protected which means effort. You can always take on a job at the side which means they get you a secured income regardless of friends or other influences. You should see to always having a job running and get additional friends if necessary.
While your speed skill isn't very high yet the taking of friends takes a lot of time. Since money isn't that important at the beginning you could always do without friends as long as it takes to increase your speed skill and make your move after accomplishing this. Consider as well that in the meantime all the friends who give a lot of money could be already taken which would mean you would have to fight to take them off of somebody else. In that case you need a lot of strength to be the winner of the conflict.
